This is one of the photos in Norman Langridge's family album of Arthur Everitt's strawberry farm on land behind his bungalow in Barbrook Lane. Picture was taken June 1931. Land was subsequently sold for housing. He feels certain that the two ladies in the picture are Edith Everitt, left, Arthur's wife, and his mother, Florence Langridge on the right. Edith Everitt was his father's sister. (Thanks to Mr Langridge for picture).
Cherry Chase is one of the oldest roads in Tiptree, with numbered properties on the left side built for the workers at the jam factory. It was so-called because there was once a cherry tree in every front garden, as seen in the postcard picture, taken in the 1950s. Postcard picture of Station Road from the early part of the last century. At that time, there was a railway station in Tiptree, which was closed during the Beeching cuts. There were a number of shops down Station Road, one of those pictured was Heaton and Co. Further up the road, towards Cherry Chase, was my great-grandparents' store, Millers. If you have any old pictures of Tiptree, please email them to webmaster@tiptreeturner.co.uk.
If you have a story to accompany the picture, feel free to let us know.
