Helping the Romanian orphans

Abandoned in the Victor Babes Hospital

Following the death of Romania's Communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in 1990, a legacy of poverty and destruction was exposed to the world. Also uncovered were the thousands of orphanages, crammed full of children - many of whom were mentally-ill or suffered from Aids - that were living in squalid conditions. I travelled to Baia Mare, in north-western Romania, on many occasions in three years with an aid charity to help the rebuilding of orphanages and the lives of the children. Come back soon to read more.
